Faraz has a career history working on built environment policy in both the public and private sector. He has led on policy issues dealing with the Economy, Environment and Housing portfolio at Surrey County Council where he negotiated the Local Area Agreement targets and set the framework for its delivery, he has also held the post of Director of Regeneration and Development at the British Property Federation where his notable achievement was lobbying the u-turn on the controversial Planning Gain Supplement proposals and previous to that was Director of Housing, Planning and Development at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors where in his seven year stint he assisted Government in the development of a number of pieces of legislation including the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 and the Housing Act 2004.
Faraz currently works at London Councils, which represents the interests of the 32 London Boroughs and the City of London as the Programme Director for World City. His wide policy and public affairs portfolio includes: planning and transport, environment issues, London 2012, sport, culture and tourism as well as housing.
Faraz is dual qualified professional as a chartered surveyor and chartered town planner. He has been Trustee on the RTPI Executive Board and remains an active member of the RTPI Planning, Policy and Practice Committee and is a RICS P&D International Professional Group member. He is also an Advisor to the LGA on housing and planning policy matters.
For his contribution made to the property profession, Faraz was invited to join the RSA as a Fellow.
He is a longstanding editorial board member for Regeneration and Renewal magazine and has been a judge on their annual national awards for the last three year’s. He has written a number of articles for trade magazines and has recently published a RICS Guide on the Planning Act 2008.
