I joined LSx on a four month internship in 2010 to help facilitate my change in career. Being part of the Energise London project team was exactly the type of experience I needed to develop the relevant skills required for roles in this sector. I was given challenging and engaging tasks such as designing a toolkit for charity and voluntary groups which involved a variety of tasks such as event planning, copy editing, building relationships with various third sector organisations, accompanying team on film shoots, brainstorming workshops and so on. The team are very encouraging and supportive; carefully considering your skills and prior experience when setting out your objectives and expectations in the role.
While at LSx, I was studying for an environmental management qualification and expressed an interest in auditing. This lead to an excellent opportunity to work with the EcoVate team who assess the environmental impact of SMEs giving me exposure in an area I was keen to look into, along with further enhancing my skill set and future employability.
The internship was invaluable at getting my foot in the door and into paid work; I feel I have been able to support my applications much more solidly now that I have the practical experience in the environmental and sustainability sector. Since leaving, I accepted a role with an environmental consultancy to become a recycling support officer on a project looking to install recycling facilities in the Tower Hamlets borough.
