Head of the Sustainable Development Unit, Government Office For London
Dr Penny Bramwell has been Head of Sustainable Development Unit at Government Office for London since October 2002. In this role she is responsible for taking forward the environment and sustainable development agenda in partnership with others in London on behalf of Government.
Prior to that she had positions in Defra (1995-2001), the GM policy team and the Climate Change Impact and Adaptation Team (2001-02). Whilst leading the Climate Change and Adaptation Team, Penny scoped out the plan for and established the 'UK Climate Impacts Programme'.
Prior to joining the Department for the Environment in 1995, Penny undertook post-doctoral research on GMOs at Oxford, a PhD at the University of Warwick in Environmental Microbiology and BSc in Biological Sciences at the University of Birmingham.
