Welcome Hello
and welcome to the March/April edition of our Greener
Food bulletin. In this edition we'll introduce you
to our Greener
Food Sustainability Champions, direct you towards some fantastic
events for the London food and drinks sector and update you with
the latest 'Green news'. One of the simplest
ways to make your business 'greener' is to serve seasonal and
local foods. For March and April these include Morel
mushrooms, wild garlic, spinach, watercress,
sardines, purple sprouting broccoli and spring lamb.

Food or if you have any suggestions please send us an

Greener Food
Update Greener
Food has recruited six Greener
Food Champions as ambassadors for the project between February
and October 2008. Their
main role is to visit food and drink businesses in London and explain how
becoming a Greener
Food business can boost their reputation and increase their profits.
By signing
up businesses to Greener
Food, our champions are helping London become a more sustainable
city. Visit
our website
and meet
the champions.
Greener food
evaluation If you have attended a Greener
Food event or received advice from a Greener
Food staff member, we would like your feedback.
We
have commissioned a social research team to find out what the
Greener Food Businesses think about the project. Over the
next three weeks, the researchers will be carrying out a telephone survey
and some face-to-face interviews. We very much hope that you will be
able to take part.
Two goodbyes and a hello Greener
Food wishes farewell to Jerome Veriter and welcomes Kirsty Balmer to
the team as Programme Assistant for Greener
Food. Sadly we are also losing our Intern Sarah Hughes to 'greener
pastures'. Best wishes to Jerome and Sarah for the
future. |

Local To
London

It
was an early rise for hundreds of people on 6th February,
wanting to join A Celebration of Local Food at London's premier
wholesale market, New Covent Garden.
45 regional producers and 10 food organisations displayed their wares,
pitching to the capital's buyers and chefs.
This
project is being launched under the banner of Local to London which
aims to bring together the entire
supply chain, from regional producers to wholesale traders and
distributors, buyers and chefs. For
further information about the Local to London Project please

Feed With
the production of some bottled water brands generating up to 600 times
more CO2 than tap water, Greener Food discourages the sale of bottled
water as it is often unnecessary, expensive and damaging to the
environment. A discount on filtration systems for Greener
Food businesses has been negotiated with two companies.
Contact London Food
Link's Charlotte
Jarman for more information. To read more about the campaign
to promote tap water across London visit London On Tap.
If you are a
London buyer looking for supplies of more sustainable food and
drink, this database is for you. London Food Link
has recently launched
Local Food Finder where you can find
800 suppliers in and around London.
