Get Well Soon London
LSx, the London Health Commission and other partners have been awarded nearly £9.5 million from the BIG Lottery Fund to increase well-being in some of London's most deprived areas. Buy Well and Eat Well aim to improve residents' mental health and happiness partly through better access and take up of good quality, affordable, locally sourced food. Greener restaurant guide coming soon!
A new guide designed to help London's food and drink businesses boost profits and reputation by going green is on the way! The cd-rom will contain top tips to help maximise profits and green credentials through better buying, selling and general operations. It also offers a special tool that can check how individual businesses could benefit from Greener Food's free business support. Muslim women to improve Tower Hamlets
Muslim women in Tower Hamlets are set to help tackle local crime, anti-social behaviour and environmental health issues. The scheme, run by LSx and Tower Hamlets council, will provide opportunities for Muslim Women in the Borough to combine their energies and expertise to address community concerns. The scheme will be launched towards the end of October 2007. 10p plastic bag levy proposed
A 10p levy on plastic bags in the Capital has been proposed. Currently only 1 in 200 plastic bags in the captial is recycled and the levy is designed to dramatically cut the number sent to landfill each year. The suggestion of a levy or even an outright ban on plastic bags forms a central part of proposals to make London a more environmentally friendly and safer place to live. More

   
       

Sustainable City Awards 2008
The City of London Corporation's Sustainability Awards is now open. Entry is open to multinationals, small businesses, the public sector and voluntary organisations both in London and across the whole of the UK. Last year's winners included cycling policemen and fire stations with solar panels on their roofs. The Awards close on the 3rd DecemberMore

Half price bus travel for 250,000 Londoners
Bus travel for those on low incomes will now be half price under a scheme launched by the Mayor of London. All Londoners on income support are eligible to receive the reduced fare of  50p for a single bus journey - a quarter of the £2 cash fare. And this will be reduced to 45p from September 30th this year as a 10 per cent across-the-board fares cut is introduced. The reduced fare is as a result of a deal made with the Venezuelan Government. More

 
   
       

2nd round of London Woodland Grants Scheme 2007/08 launched
Groundwork London is inviting applications for a second round of the London Woodland Grants Scheme. The scheme offers small grants (£500-£5000) for tree and woodland related projects in the East and South East London area. Awards are designed to increase tree cover over the Thames Gateway area as laid out in the urban forestry strategy document. More
