The Well London Alliance has been awarded nearly £9.5 million by the Big Lottery Fund, one of two portfolios given money to implement a wide range of health and well-being projects across the capital.
The Well London Alliance brought together by the London Health Commission, comprises of London Sustainability Exchange, Groundwork, London Central YMCA, University of East London, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trusts and the Arts Council England.
London Sustainability Exchange will be coordinating four of the projects funded through the bid, building on our existing knowledge and work in the area of food, sustainability and healthy lifestyles.
Buywell will work in communities to improve access to good quality, affordable and culturally sensitive food locally. Eatwell will focus on the practice of healthy eating, celebrating good food and setting up activities like cook and eat clubs.
In partnership with Central YMCA, LSx will coordinate teams of volunteers as Well London Delivery teams. They will work with local people to empower them to make healthier choices. Finally, to help these projects and the other projects in the alliance to have a lasting impact LSx will be setting up WellNet, a learning network for communities and professionals. This will disseminate the lessons learnt via events, newsletters and a website.
The project in the Well London Alliance will work alongside the 84 projects from Active 8 London. Active 8 London, led by the Peabody Trust is the second portfolio awarded money by the Big Lottery Fund and will work on health and well being projects in social housing communities across London.
