Air quality is a serious issue in London, the long-term exposure of air borne pollution is responsible for the deaths of more than 9,500 Londoners each year. While London’s air quality is contributing to ill health and fatalities, air pollution is low on the public agenda. This project will begin to create a critical mass of communities that are actively engaged in measuring and are making a difference by:

  1. Gathering data through citizen science activities to map local air quality
  2. Identifying key areas for action to directly influence local, regional and national policy
  3. Supporting each other through inspirational shared learning events

We worked with Londoners in eight communities, providing training and support to help them demand better air quality and enable them to formulate change.

8 community groups involved
8 Borough councils engaged in discussions
45 champions recruited
820 people directly engaged

Until today, I was not aware of the severe pollution around Clapham Junction area. Now I feel I have been informed, and want to change things.

Working with engaged and enthusiastic communities is vitally important as we work together to address and prioritise air pollution in the borough, and LSx are an essential part of this.
