Environmental justice is a growing policy area in Europe. There are a number of European laws and directives that specifically relate to developing access to environmental information, participation and decision making.
For example, the Aarhus Convention is the UNECE European Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision Making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters. It was agreed at the 1998 Environment for Europe conference. The Convention is helping to advance environmental justice issues in many parts of the UNECE region, specifically Europe and the UK.
