Engaging South Asian Communities with Climate Change Together this generation can tackle climate change was a programme funded through the Defra’s climate challenge fund with the aim of engaging South Asian communities in taking action on climate change. The project intended to increase South Asian communities’ understanding of the causes of climate change, how it affects them now and in the future, and how they could all take actions. The project targeted South Asian audiences across London but particularly the Boroughs of Brent, Croydon, Ealing and Redbridge, as areas of significant South Asian populations. This programme, began in August 2006 and finsihed in February 2008 has targeted an audience of over 1 million people of which around 7000 were reached through direct outreach.
The message of this campaign was communicated through various activities such as:
Activities led by Community Ambassadors: A programme of stimulating, participative, and multi-lingual activities such as talks, games, quizzes etc from South Asian communities in partnership with community and faith groups in the Boroughs of Brent, Ealing, Redbridge and Croydon
Performing arts activities: In conjuction with the Community Ambassadors activities, climate change message was communicated through activities such as multi-lingual storytelling, drama, and magician by representatives of South Asian communities
Editorial coverage in ethnic and local media, with specialist help from an ethnic media agency.
