Health and Well-Being

London is a leading world city on so many fronts. But behind the economic and cultural buzz of London lie some of the starkest inequalities in health and deprivation to be found anywhere in the UK.

Current policy is not improving health in our most disadvantaged communities.

The Well London Programme works in 20 of the most disadvantaged communities in London.  In partnership with local groups, it leads projects to help Londoners to

• Improve mental health and well-being
• Improve healthy eating choices
• Promote access to open space
• Increase levels of physical activity

Well London is an alliance of six organisations, including LSx, which have been brought together by the London Health Commission.  The programme has been awarded a grant of £9.46m of BIG Lottery Funding under the Well-being Fund to run from 2007 until September 2011.

LSx is coordinating the Well London programme in Heath (LB Barking and Dagenham), Upper Edmonton (LB Enfield) and Hind Grove (LB Tower Hamlets).

We are also managing several projects:

• Buywell – aims to make it easier for people to buy healthy, affordable food locally. Supporting community-led initiatives such as food co-ops.  Delivered in partnership with London Food Link.
• Eatwell - will increase rates of healthy eating and promote a sense of community through celebrating good food and practical activities like cook and eat clubs.
• Wellnet- a learning network for communities and professionals across all the projects to share lessons learnt. Will include events, newsletters and online resources. 
• Well London Delivery Team – supporting local partners to recruit a team of trained volunteers in all 20 areas to signpost people to well-being related resources and services.
